Why this exists

The pack, the ridge, the reason.

Landour is a deodar ridge at 7,000 ft above Mussoorie. I live here, and every morning I feed 14 street dogs across Mall Road and the chakkar. They have names and regular spots, and they give every visitor to this hillside the friendliest welcome they'll get.

The municipal programme has sterilised most of them. What nobody covers is food. When the tourists leave in October and winter sets in, the scraps dry up at exactly the moment the dogs need calories most, as the cold drops below zero and the paths turn to ice.

Some of them are hurt by cars on these pitch-black mountain roads, which is why the dark-furred pups now wear reflective collars. Some just want a minute of your time. All of them trust you once you show up, and that's the problem with street dogs: once they trust you, you keep showing up.

The Landogs is how we keep showing up.

What your support does

Four things keep a mountain dog alive.

Food

A cup of kibble a day, every day. Most important in winter, when the tourists and the scraps are gone.

Warmth

Winter coats for the short-haired indies, and straw-lined shelters for nights below freezing.

Vet care

Getting injured and sick dogs down the hill to a vet, then paying for treatment and medicine.

A name

Every dog is known, counted and checked on. Nobody on this ridge goes missing without someone noticing.
